Spring 2012 Read-a-thon Updates

April 21, 2012

Hello! It’s Readathon day! I’ll be updating this post throughout the day, so scroll down to the bottom for current stats, tunes, and snacks!

You’ll also be able to find me chatting away on Twitter, cheering throughout the blogosphere (Go Team Mercutio!), and sharing readathon tunes on tumblr.

For more info on the 24hr Readthon, head over HERE. Regular scheduled alita.reads. programming will resume next week!

5:00 am – Hour 1
The Spring 2012 Readathon has officially begun! I’ll be up soon because even though it’s super early for a Saturday, these early hours are one of my favourite parts of the readathon. With the rest of the world still sleeping, it’s a perfect quiet & cozy time to curl up on the couch with a book :)

That being said, I do love my sleep, so there’s a chance I’m still in bed right now ;) In the meantime let’s take a look at my readathon stack, shall we?

In preparation for the readathon, I usually hit the library and go crazy, almost like I’m attempting to max out my library holds. But this time around, in my continuing attempt to read down my TBR shelves, I’m sticking with my own books. With two exceptions because I can’t completely say no to the library.

Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
Naked Heat by Richard Castle
I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life by Bryan Lee O’Malley (library book #1. pictures are a must!)
What You Wish For: Stories & Poems for Darfur (library book #2. short stories throughout the day!)

.

My plan is to start with Princess in Love then move on to A Wrinkle in Time and save Scott Pilgrim for the end of the day, when my eyes can no longer stand the sight of pages full of only words. The others will fill in whatever space is left!

EDIT: 5:02am – I’m up! Let’s read!

6:45am – Hour 2 (The ‘First Breakfast’ Edition)

Guys – I am having a rough go of it this morning. I didn’t sleep well and then woke up with a stiff neck and OH SO HUNGRY. Usually it takes a while for my stomach to wake up but, man, this morning? I feel like I could eat a horse. It’s like my stomach is well aware of all the snacks waiting for it later today. But I can’t start the day with Pringles & wine. Or… can I?

Thankfully Princess in Love has me giggling. Perfect book to start my morning off with.

Reading: Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
Munching: Instant Oatmeal & Earl Grey Tea. AND I AM STILL SO HUNGRY! Good thing I stocked up on lots of snacks, because I think I am going to need them.
Listening: Early morning silence

Books finished: 0
Total pages read: 72
Total reading time: 1hr 20min
Total cheer comments: 0

9:31am – Hour 5 (The ‘Second Breakfast’ Edition)

How are we already in hour 5?? But I’m happy to say that I’m feeling a lot better now than I was in my last update. And, I’m not going to lie, having bacon was a big part of that. I haven’t read nearly as much as I had wanted to so far, but I’m still having fun chatting on twitter and having a nice, lazy Saturday morning.

Reading: Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
Munching: Bacon, eggs, fruit medley, and lemon tea
Listening: to the world waking up outside. Plus, there seems to be some sort of animal on our roof.

Books finished: 0
Total pages read: 145
Total reading time: 2hrs 27min
Total cheer comments: 13

1:11pm – Hour 9

I finished my first book! Hooray! I’ve taken a bit of a break to read some short stories, but after this I’m going head into A Wrinkle in Time. I first read it when I was a kid (I believe my mom bribed me with chocolate) and ended up loving it. I’m curious to see how it will hold up years later, especially since I remember so little about it.

I hope everyone else is having a great readathon!

Reading: What You Wish For: Stories & Poems for Darfur
Munching: leftover Easter chocolate
Listening: Still silence.

Books finished: 1 book & 2 short stories
*Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
Total pages read: 273
Total reading time: 4hrs 19min
Total cheer comments: 28

3:11pm – Hour 11 (The ‘Hey, I had lunch!’ Edition)

Not much to report stats-wise since my last update. I did have some delicious lunch and I am very much enjoying A Wrinkle in Time. So… time to get back at it!

Reading: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
Munching: Nothing at the moment (surprisingly), but I did have yummy leftover pizza for lunch.
Listening: I really need to turn my music on at some point

Books finished: 1 book & 2 short stories
*Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
*2 stories from What You Wish For: Stories & Poems for Darfur
Total pages read: 330
Total reading time: 5hrs 25min
Total cheer comments: 28

7:43pm – Hour 15 (The ‘Dinner Time’ Edition)

Hi guys! It’s hard to believe I’m already heading into the evening hours. I took a bit of a break for dinner and an episode of “Accidentally On Purpose” on Netflix (So sad there was only one season of that series!), and now I’m going to head back into A Wrinkle in Time.

How’s the last half of your ‘thon going?

Reading: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle and What You Wish For: Stories & Poems for Darfur
Munching: Just had a dinner of some munchies with hummus, now sipping strawberry rhubarb wine
Listening: Thoughts From Sound by The Salteens

Books finished: 1 book & 5 short stories
*Princess in Love by Meg Cabot
*5 stories from What You Wish For: Stories & Poems for Darfur
Total pages read: 431
Total reading time: 7hrs 29min
Total cheer comments: 54 (I finished going through my whole list of cheerees!)

11:06pm – Hour 19
Time for me to call it a night. Sorry, I don’t have a food pic for you this time.

Thanks for another fun readathon everyone!

When I don’t sleep well, I think I eat for all of the hours of sleep I missed! But A Wrinkle in Time is really good–one of my favorite books. I haven’t read it for years, but I read it nearly once year for a while there. Hang in there– the oatmeal and tea and good reading time just need a chance to kick in! –Harriet

Nice list of books you have! I read “I’ve Got Your Number” recently and loved it! It’s a good one for read-a-thon day as the dialogue is very conversational. Happy Reading!

I haven’t read A Wrinkle in Time since jr. high! I loved that book! The Princess Diaries series is one of my favorite YA series. I finished i’ve Got Your Number last week. It’s very good. Definitely a good choice for the Read-a-Thon. I like your idea of reading from your shelves. I probably should have done the same. I’ll have to keep that in mind for the October Read-a-Thon. I hope you’re having fun reading!

Mmm, bacon. Also, I hope you enjoyed your re-read of A Wrinkle In Time! I actually remember being a little terrified of that book when I read it…wasn’t there something called It that possessed Charles Wallace? And was super creepy? That freaked me out. But anyway, happy reading!

You are doing great! 54 comments? That’s a lot of cheering. I don’t remember having that many when I was a cheerleader

That’s an awesome book pile! I’ve got the last Scott Pilgrim manga in my pile, and I’m hoping to get to it. Heres’s a cheer for you:

    Books, books
    big and small
    Stay up late
    and read them all!

  15. April 21, 2012 11:11 pm

Go Alita! I hope you’re still going strong! You’re doing great! :-)

  16. April 21, 2012 11:18 pm

All your meals looked soooo tasty. I mostly ate junk: Oreos and ice cream and the like, with a supper that was all about fat and carbs. Hello, heart attack! At least everything was pretty good, even if it was less than healthy. :)

  17. April 22, 2012 12:02 am

Love the food pictures *should have thought of that*
    Thx for visiting!

Thank you for stopping by my blog earlier! I was so caught up in finishing my book for book club that I didn’t have a chance to check out any other blogs! But congrats on getting so much reading done! I love Sophia Kinsella so I hope you like that book when you get to read it! And I love the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels!
