Happy Canada Day!

I know there are all sorts of Canadian-pride videos out there, I’ve already watched a few that are floating around twitter today. But whenever I need a shot of patriotism I watch this video essay from the Winter Olympics last year.

The song featured at the end of the video, “Red Heart” by Hey Rosetta!, became my own personal soundtrack for the days following the Stanley Cup riot a couple weeks ago. It was amazing to see pictures people setting cars on fire being replaced by others sweeping up glass early the following morning and writing messages on the boarded up windows downtown. It was another example of Canadians letting their lovely red hearts show.

Won’t you let your red heart show?
Won’t you let your red heart show?
Don’t let your red heart go cold
Don’t let your red heart go cold
We were given so much and we let it go
We were given so much and we’re getting old
We were promised so much but we let it go
We were promised so much and it’s going I know
But you look so good when you’re laughing you know
Yeah you know you look so good when you let it show
Honey you look so good when you’re laughing

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

I love the way we Canadians sing our national anthem. During the Olympics, people would break into it randomly. That was my favourite part. And yeah, the riot did get us a lot of negative attention but I reckon it also brought out the good people and showed some awesome patriotism. It was so stupid though, that night.
