Soundtrack Saturday – One Day by David Nicholls

August 21, 2010

Soundtrack Saturdays is a little thing where I share a song with you that I think would fit on the soundtrack for the book I’m currently reading. If you’d like to join in, please either leave your soundtrack pick or the link to your soundtrack post in the comments.

Current read: One Day by David Nicholls

One Sentence Summary: State of Emma and Dexter’s lives on every July 15 from 1988 to 2007.

Soundtrack Song: “Nothing Like You & I” by The Perishers, from the album Let There Be Morning.

Why I chose this song: “Nothing Like You & I” and One Day both tell of relationships with lots of history. It seems both people are trying to move on, but they still really care about each other. And every time they get close to getting together either the moment has just passed or there’s something in the way.

We spent some time together walking,
Spent some time just talking about who we were.
You held my hand so very tightly
And told me what we could be dreaming of.

There’s nothing like you and I.

We spent some time together drinking,
Spent some time just thinking about days of joy.
As our hearts started beating faster
I recalled your laughter from long ago.

There’s nothing like you and I.

We spent some time together crying,
Spent some time just trying to let each other go.
I held your hand so very tightly
And told you what I would be dreaming of.

There’s nothing like you and I
So why do I even try?
There’s nothing like you and I

What song would you add to the soundtrack for this book or the one you’re currently reading?

I loved One Day and I think this is the perfect song selection – well done! :)

Great Choice, my pic is Unfinished sympathy by Massive Attack…
I read “One Day” a while ago and even if I didn’t realize it immediately, it really made an impression.
I obviously hated the ending but it had quite a powerful effect on me, still has.

LR – Thanks! It came on when I was reading the part with Em & Dex in the maze and I was like “Yes! So perfect!” So I repeated it a couple times as I read on :)

Emily – Unfinished Sympathy is a great pick. It’s also on Emmy Morley’s Mix Tape :)

How about ‘One Day’ by Mark Travers (itunes). It’s got a perfect 80’s groove?
