Soundtrack Saturday – Double Feature!

Soundtrack Saturdays is a little thing where I share a song with you that I think would fit on the soundtrack for the book I’m currently reading. Feel free to join in!

I didn’t do a Soundtrack post last week, so this week you get two songs!

Part 1

Current Read: Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler

One Sentence Summary: Modern girl and LA resident Courtney Stone wakes up one morning as Jane Mansfield of Regency England.

Soundtrack Song: “Take a Chance” by Landon Pigg, from the album The Boy Who Never.

Why I chose this song: SPOILER ALERT! Do not keep reading if you do not want to know how the book kinda sorta ends. When I heard this song it immediately seemed to fit with the very end of Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict. When Jane/Courtney lets all the walls she has built crumble, and time and identity are swirling around in a vortex of happiness. Honestly, I didn’t really like the end at first, but when I reread it while listening to this song, it made that last paragraph seem so much more exciting and magical. (And by ‘end of book’ I’m not including the epistolary epilogue, which, really, just confused me.)

But now I see what I’ve been missing
All this time I took second guessing
Now I need to take a chance on me

Part 2

Current Read: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

One Sentence Summary: Susie Salmon has been murdered and now watches the Earth’s activities from her heaven.

Soundtrack Song: “The World Spins Madly On” by The Weepies, from the album Say I Am You.

Why I chose this song: After Susie’s murder, her family has to deal with the fact that life is continuing although they are still dealing with her disappearance from their lives. This song not only fits well with how the whole family is struggling, but especially Susie’s dad:

Everyday he got up. Before sleep wore off, he was who he used to be. Then, as his consciousness woke, it was as if poison seeped in. At first he couldn’t even get up. He lay there under a heavy weight. But then only movement could save him, and he moved and he moved and he moved, no movement being enough to make up for it. The guilt on him, the hand of God pressing down on him, saying, You were not there when your daughter needed you. (p. 58)
