Monday Round Up (02.08.10)

February 7, 2010

“What are you reading on Mondays” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila that lets you share books you’ve read over the past week and books you have coming up.

Finished:
Austenland by Shannon Hale

Started/still reading:
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

Up next: Hm, not too sure. Let me know if you have any suggestions from what’s waiting on my shelf!

Library Loot is hosted by Eva at A Striped Armchair and Marg at Reading Adventures.

I had two items I was on the hold list for come in to the library for me last week:

The  Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
Pride &  Prejudice (1995 BBC Miniseries) – I picked it up on Friday night and have not only already finished it, but have already decided I need a copy of my own.

sb10067729n-003Mailbox Monday is a weekly event hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

I had one book arrive this week:

Wish by Alexandra Bullen (won from Mel @ He Followed Me Home…)

What are you reading? Did any new books find their way into your possession?

I have heard great things about The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.

    Happy Reading:)

I really want to read Austenland now that I’ve read your review. As for what you should read next…Either Persuasion ~ Jane Austen or The Opposite of Love ~ Julie Buxbuam. The Opposite of Love is one of the very few books that has ever made me cry. Actually, it was more than just a cry. It was a completely shocking mix of laughter and tears all at once. Just jumped right out and knocked me down. Awesome book. Read it as soon as you can!

Whatever you choose to read this week, enjoy!

I loved The Thirteenth Tale, too. My suggestion for what next would be The Book Thief – haven’t got round to that one myself yet although everyone keeps telling me I should.

    Happy reading!

The Thirteenth Tale is a favorite of mine–so dark and gothic. I have read conflicting reviews of Austenland but was pleased to see you liked it. Book Thief is a must read!

The Adoration of Jenna Fox is very well written, it gives you a lot to think about. I think that Wish is a fun read.

Great review of Austenland, it is my favorite Shannon Hale book. Have a great reading week!

The Thirteenth Tale is one of my absolute favorite books. I read it when it first came out, but still remember it. You’re really going to enjoy it!

  28. February 8, 2010 12:37 pm

I loved The Thirteenth Tale, I thought it was amazing. You have some great reads on your TBR. As for what next, it depends what you feel like. If you want to carry on the spooky gothicness I’d say the Forgotten Garden. If you fancy something a bit light hearted then I’d recommend The Secret Shoppers and if you want to be blown away then The Book Thief. They are really great books.

  29. February 8, 2010 2:35 pm

I have heard terrific things about The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Have a great week!

  30. February 8, 2010 5:25 pm

  31. February 8, 2010 5:43 pm

I see you have a few by Marin Keyes on your shelf – I love her books! Also, I just read Bitter is the New Black and loved it – the author’s snarky humor is priceless!

Enjoy whatever you choose to read next!

My friends and I watched the P&P mini-series so many times during college that we pretty much had the thing memorized. I like how faithful an adaptation it was to the content of the book. Some day I will buy it for myself as well.

I loved The Book Thief, but I had to put it down after a while because I got so attached to the characters and I couldn’t bear to have anything bad happen to them like I knew it would. I thought Zusak’s choice of narrator was very clever – he’s quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors.
