Soundtrack Saturday – Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Soundtrack Saturday is an opportunity to share a song I think would fit on the soundtrack for the book I’m currently reading.
Feel free to join in! Either leave your soundtrack pick or the link to your soundtrack post in the comments.
From the author’s website:
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.
When Cricket—a gifted inventor—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
Soundtrack Song: “Out On The Town” by fun.
I listened to the new fun. album for the first time on Thursday, and I don’t know if it’s because I had just posted my review of Lola and the Boy Next Door so it was fresh in my mind, or what, but this song immediately made me think of that book. At first, I thought it went perfectly with Cricket’s perspective, but then I thought maybe Lola’s. Now, I think it could work for either of them – both have regrets and spend much time staring longingly at the other’s window, hoping they will appear. And yes, sometimes throwing things at the window to make them appear.
I was out on the town so I came to your window last night
I tried not to throw stones, but I wanted to come inside
Now I’m causing a scene, thinking you need a reason to smile
Oh no, what I have I done?
There’s no one to keep me warm.
