Book #24 – Seventeenth Summer

July 20, 2009

seventeenth summerIt’s July and we’re in the middle of a heat wave. Is there any better time to read about young, summer love?

The other day I sent out a request for book recommendations, and one of my friends came through with a stack of books to replenish my to-read pile. One of the books in the stack of J’s Books was Seventeenth Summer by Maureen Daly.

First published in 1942, Seventeenth Summer is considered to be the first YA novel. It’s about a girl named Angie, who had just graduated from high school and is asked out on her first date by Jack, star of the local high school basketball team. They fall in love, but know that at the end of the summer they will be heading their separate ways to different colleges.

Sounds like perfect reading material for sunny lunch breaks in the park.
